California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on Sunday his run for re-election, affirming his commitment to defending California, his campaign said in a press release.“Over the last five years, we’ve built a wall of protection around this state – a legal fortress around our rights, our freedoms, and our values that not even the most unlawful President can tear down. Together, we have proven that when California fights, WE WIN. This is why I have decided to continue my campaign to earn another term as your Attorney General.” This announcement confirms that Bonta will not be joining the race for governor.“The outpouring of encouragement from supporters, friends, and family to jump into the Governor’s race has sharpened my focus and reminded me how grateful I am to work with so many who care so deeply for this state,” he said. KCRA’s Political Director Ashley Zavala spoke with the attorney general in an interview back in November, where he did not rule out running for governor.”I am very flattered, honored, grateful for the incredible outpouring of encouragement I’ve received to reconsider running for governor and that has meant a lot to me to hear from those folks,” Bonta said. When Zavala followed up by asking Bonta if he’s considering a run with that encouragement, Bonta said, “I have nothing to announce today about this.”Bonta goes on to reaffirm his goal in defending California from the Trump administration.“We are at our strongest against the rising tides of tyranny when we stand together, each of us clear-eyed and committed to the roles we must play. When we turned on our TVs this week to see federal agents gunning people down in their own neighborhoods; the President attacking innocent children and child care providers — it served as a reminder that Trump’s attacks aren’t just a policy dispute, they are an assault on the California Dream itself – the idea that everyone here should be safe, free, and treated with dignity.”“Watching this dystopian horror come to life reaffirmed something I feel in every fiber of my being: in this moment, my place is here – shielding Californians from the most brazen attacks on our rights and our families.”See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on Sunday his run for re-election, affirming his commitment to defending California, his campaign said in a press release.

“Over the last five years, we’ve built a wall of protection around this state – a legal fortress around our rights, our freedoms, and our values that not even the most unlawful President can tear down. Together, we have proven that when California fights, WE WIN. This is why I have decided to continue my campaign to earn another term as your Attorney General.”

This announcement confirms that Bonta will not be joining the race for governor.

“The outpouring of encouragement from supporters, friends, and family to jump into the Governor’s race has sharpened my focus and reminded me how grateful I am to work with so many who care so deeply for this state,” he said.

KCRA’s Political Director Ashley Zavala spoke with the attorney general in an interview back in November, where he did not rule out running for governor.

“I am very flattered, honored, grateful for the incredible outpouring of encouragement I’ve received to reconsider running for governor and that has meant a lot to me to hear from those folks,” Bonta said.

When Zavala followed up by asking Bonta if he’s considering a run with that encouragement, Bonta said, “I have nothing to announce today about this.”

Bonta goes on to reaffirm his goal in defending California from the Trump administration.

“We are at our strongest against the rising tides of tyranny when we stand together, each of us clear-eyed and committed to the roles we must play. When we turned on our TVs this week to see federal agents gunning people down in their own neighborhoods; the President attacking innocent children and child care providers — it served as a reminder that Trump’s attacks aren’t just a policy dispute, they are an assault on the California Dream itself – the idea that everyone here should be safe, free, and treated with dignity.”

“Watching this dystopian horror come to life reaffirmed something I feel in every fiber of my being: in this moment, my place is here – shielding Californians from the most brazen attacks on our rights and our families.”
